Seed Treatment

Seed Treatment

Seed treatment as part of modern agriculture in Brazil

Seed treatment is an excellent example of how the seed industry and the agrochemicals industry are innovating, given the future of modern Brazilian agriculture. The industrial treatment of seeds has increased significantly in importance as companies have been working to create new and more productive technologies, especially generated to meet the needs of farmers to combat pests (diseases, insects, nematodes, weeds, among others). The treatment of seeds serves as a means of transporting products aimed at the control of these pests, characterizing itself as one of the most important practices of integrated pest management, helping to increase the production and the yield of the crops.

Seed treatment is an effective tool to combat the negative effects of pests at planting time and thereby help farmers to produce more and better quality while minimizing the negative impact on humans, animals, and the environment.

Definition of seed treatment:

Seed treatment is the application of chemical ingredients and/or biological organisms to the seeds in order to suppress, control or wards off pathogens, insects or pests that attack seeds, seedlings and plants.

Technologies applied to seed, as inoculant, protective agents, and herbicides, micronutrients, growth regulators, seed coatings, dyes, etc. May also be considered seed treatment. The treated seeds are intended exclusively for planting and not related to human or animal feed.
